Electtronic Mentoring Support for Mentors of Recently Appointed Partners at PWC
Welcome to the Electronic Mentoring Support for Mentors at PWC.
You've attended the Mentor Training Workshop offered by AIM on 22 September 2005 and this section of the AIM website was specifically designed for you.
The Process
AIM conducted a Needs Analysis before embarking on the development of the Mentor Workshop.
Representatives of the following groups of PWC Partners were interviewed:
- Newly appointed Partners
- Mentors to newly appointed Partners
- Partners who've been in this position for two or more years
The interviews revolved around two questions:
- What makes a Partner at PWC successful?
- What is important in terms of Mentoring new Partners at PWC?
The following is a summary of interviewees' response to the first question: What makes a Partner at PWC successful?
Interviewees agreed that technical ability, as well as being skilled at managing risks and understanding the changing business environment are essential competencies for successful partners. They also felt that partners need to have integrity and relationship skills. The latter "soft skills", in particular, are essential in dealing with clients and managing teams. Successful partners also take responsibility for their self-development and are able to strike a balance between work and their private lives.
Mentoring Training by AIM
A one-day workshop will be facilitated by AIM. Mentors will learn how to develop their mentees (new PWC partners) regarding their personal, career, organisational and networking needs. The process and content of mentoring will be discussed and role played i.e. relationship development, understanding, challenging and actioning.
A half-day follow-up session will be held by AIM with the Mentors after a period of six months.
